BOO to YOU!

I love paper piecing & thought this ghost from the Little Boogas set would be cute done that way.
Hope you've got your little goblins costumes done.  I just need to put the finishing touches on today for my son's penguin costume.  I just made the tummy, beak and shoe covers out of felt ~ we'll see how it turns out. I didn't want to spend $30 on a costume ~ so $2.17 in felt & 30 minutes with the sewing machine sounded good to me!

Supplies from i{heart}papers:
Stamps ~ Our Craft Lounge (Little Boogas)
Pattern Paper ~ Cosmo Cricket (
Joy Ride)
Ink ~ Palette
Copic Markers ~ YR18, YR16

A few Challenge Cards

For my projects today, I played along on a few challenges ~ The Play Date Cafe Challenge & the Unity Hip Hop Sketch Challenge #30.   This week I discovered this challenge site called The Play Date Cafe.  They have a weekly color challenge and they also put a photo on their site as an inspiration piece.  This week colors were yellow, pink and orange ~ yummy!  I will be going back to play again on these challenges.

For my first card I used a soft yellow and orange.  I tried to get the pink in there, but I just wasn't happy with it, so I took it out.  But I do think the super sparkly butterfly image from Unity's Super Sweet set turned out cute!  I also added the Distressed Dots background stamp to the card base and to the die cut butterflies.

For my second card, I also used this week's Unity Hip Hop Sketch Challenge #30 & the colors from the Play Date Cafe Challenge.   I managed to get the pink and yellow in this card, but the orange just didn't work it's way in.

Supplies from i{heart}papers:

Butterfly Card:
Stamps ~ Unity (Super Sweet, Distressed Dots)
Ink ~ Palette (Sunflower, Orangerie)
Gems ~ Zva (Orange Crystals)
Nestabilities ~ Circle, Big Scallop Circle
Copic Marker ~ YR18 (used to color white ribbon)

Cup of Happy:
Stamps ~ Unity (Hodge Podge of Happiness)
Ink ~ Palette (Noir)
Copic Markers ~ Y21, R81, R83, R85

OCL Sketch Challenge #36

It's Friday ~ YIPPPEEEEE!  And it time for the new OCL sketch!  Here is the sketch & you can see the inspiration piece over on the OCL Blog.  I love this one because it came from a scrapbook page but you could also do a card.  Don't be intimidated if you don't scrapbook, JUST TRY IT!

So for my project today, I decided to continue with my Yellowstone pictures.  That's the great part about using 3-ring binders for your albums, you can easily slide in a layout or forgotten items.  Even though I already have these photos in my album, I do love including enlargements on full sized layouts.

I used several different stamp sets by Our Craft Lounge on this layout.  For the background & photo corner images, I used the new Vintage Traveler set; for the dotted detail on my pattern paper, I used Fancy Fringe; and for my title and journaling lines, I used The Journey stamp set.

So are you unsure on how to incorporate stamps into your scrapbook pages?  The stamped images shouldn't really be the main focus of your page.  Notice the round piece on the above sketch.  On my original piece, it was a stamped & colored item.  But for my new page, I used a photo rather than a big stamped image.  All of the stamping on the page is very subtle and used tone on tone (except for the title).   If I hadn't used some stamps on this page, it would have been a bit boring.  However, I didn't need a big in-your-face stamped image; it simply would have distracted the reader from the gorgeous photo.

Soooooooooooo..... I had this post almost completely written yesterday and decided that I really wanted to make a card for the sketch as well ~ just to show you it could really be done.   I am pretty happy with the final result of this one!

I used the same stamp sets by Our Craft Lounge on this layout ~ Vintage Traveler , Fancy Fringe and The Journey as well as the same pattern paper from Little Yellow Bicycle.

So are you inspired to give this one a try?  When you do, make sure you leave your link over on the OCL Blog so you have a chance to win a free set!

Lizzie Anne Design Team Challenge

Today I'm excited to share my Design Team Challenge projects with you for Lizzie Anne Designs.  Our challenge this month was to use a Christmas set & not only do a card but also a matching gift package.  I love doing 3D items, so this was super fun!  I used the Holiday Lane Stamp set which is filled with some adorable images for a beautiful Christmas village.  I used some sweet paper from Basic Grey called Eskimo Kisses & it coordinates perfectly with this set!  The idea for my card came from a card I saw by Debbie Olsen in the Paper Crafts Holiday Cards & More issue.
My little box only stands 3 1/2" tall, but it is perfect for a party favor filled with some sweet treats!   Or another fun idea might be take them around the neighborhood and pass them out while singing Christmas carols. The possibilities are endless!

Now don't forget to visit all the other designers blogs to see more wonderful Christmas inspiration!  You can see a complete list on the LAD Blog!

IHP Birthday Bash Sketch Challenge!

My sketch challenge card is an easel card that features two coordinating stamp sets by Our Craft Lounge ~ Tweet Thang and Tweet Trees along with this wonderful paper by Cosmo Cricket called Togetherness.  I used some white ribbon and colored it with my Copic Markers so it would match and added some Rockstar Red Sparkly Fluff on the birds cheeks.

And here is the card propped open showing the cute sentiment!  The card base is a standard size 4 1/4" x 11" and is scored at 5 1/2" & 2" for the folds.  You'll want to make sure you put something inside the card like brads or trim to hold the easel in place when it is open.

Pattern Paper ~  Cosmo Cricket Togetherness.

IHP Birthday Bash!

Hello and welcome to the i {heart} papers 2nd Birthday Bash blog hop and scavenger hunt!  You should have arrived here from Kazan's Blog.  If you're jumping into the middle (or if you're lost!) be sure to start at Kate's Blog.  You don't want to miss a thing!

Today we’re celebrating two great years at IHP!  We have some fabulous guest designers playing along with our talented design team members who will bring you some fantastic birthday paper-crafting inspiration!  Our design team and guests are revealing their creations for this month's design team challenge--to design the "Perfect Pair"--a birthday card and coordinating gift, tag or other presentation item.

The DT Challenge!

We would love if you would join us in making a Perfect Pair of your own (upload to your blog or an online gallery with the keyword IHPBB10).  Be sure to post your link on Kate’s blog so we can see your project and enter your name in our challenge prize drawings.

Your Challenge Fun!

In addition to today's design team challenge, we have more fun tomorrow and on Thursday too!  But don't worry - you won't have to hop every day!  Tomorrow, Kate will be hosting a sketch challenge on her blog, and then Deb has another challenge for you on Thursday. Winners for each day will be randomly drawn from each day's entries, and everyone who plays along, either with the challenges and/or the scavenger hunt (more on that below) will be eligible for the grand prize drawing that will close the festivities on Friday.

The Scavenger Hunt!

Submitting your challenge projects is not the only way to win!
Tucked into the text of today's blog posts we've provided clues to an easy scavenger hunt (most have to do with our favorite products and tools or hobbies and interests we have) and we invite you to play as you hop.   When you find the answer, click the link to visit the store and collect "evidence" that is listed on that particular product’s page.  When you are finished, email your complete list, in blog hop order, to Kate .  You can take your time and stretch the hop over the three days of our Birthday Bash celebration...it's not a race, but like any other sale, the earlier you shop, the better the selection!  Deadline to submit your scavenger hunt entry is Friday morning (10/22) at 3:00 am EST.

By participating in the scavenger hunt you'll receive an exclusive, one time use 20% off coupon code to use when you shop at i {heart} papers.  (This will be emailed to you after the Bash when entries are checked.)  You will also be entered for your chance to win the grand prize $50 gift certificate drawing on Friday.
ALL orders placed during the Bash (Oct 19-21) will receive a free goodie bag of surprise merchandise.  The more you spend, the bigger your goodie bag! Also, there will be random drawings for additional prizes from our PaperCraft Planet group members, our mailing list (sign up on the right side of the homepage) and our fans on Facebook.  If you are on all three, then you’ve got triple the chances to win!

My Perfect Pair Birthday Project!
So now ~ at last ~ I am going to share my PERFECT PAIR for the Birthday Challenge!  It's a Cupcake in a Jar with a matching card & I'm super excited about it!  I used the fun Mint Motif stamps ~ Very Square for the patterns on the punched cupcake.  I stamped them with my favorite Palette Ink Pads.  These ink pads are great because they work with Copic Markers and they have beautiful colors to choose from.

And here is another view of my yummy Red Velvet Cupcake in a Jar!
I found the idea on a fun party planning site called My Dream Party ~ so fun!

Supply List from i{heart}papers!

LAD Mix It Up HOP!

Woohooo ~ It's the 15th ~ I love the 15th ~ Woohooo!  Yes it is once again time to show you the new Monthly Mix for November called The Key to Happiness.  I just adore this teapot image and the outline that goes with it.  I got out my handy-dandy Stamp-a-ma-jig to line it up & it worked beautifully.  You remember that tool way back in the drawer that you NEVER pull out ~ well pull it out because these stamps MUST be used together!  I also used the sketch from this week for the layout of my card.

Make sure you stop over at the Lizzie Anne Blog to see who all is playing along today for the Monthly Mix Hop!

#1 Teacher

Our parent/teacher conferences are coming up in a few weeks and I know our teachers are feeling a little stressed out right now.  It will be several long days and maybe some unhappy parents.  So now might be a great time to send a little note of encouragement to your child's teacher for doing a great job!  I used this adorable school house image from the Sweet & Spooky Monthly Mix for October from Lizzie Anne Designs.  For the sentiment I used the School Days Set along with the Sketched Sentiments Set (Retired).

Scrapping Again...

Well I finished a project and IT FEELS GREAT!   We love to travel and whenever I get home from a vacation, I always take the time to organize, edit and print my photos.  Then I slide the photos into divided page protectors until I have a chance to scrapbook them.  I feel like if that part gets done, then we can at least look at the albums and enjoy the memories, even if the pages aren't finished.

Well last week I needed a break from working on cards and decided it was time to pick up one of my trip albums and work on it.  I have been purchasing lots of different travel & camping scrapbooking supplies and had them in a box ready to go.  I decided to use the travel papers & embellishments from Little Yellow Bicycle and some camping papers from Bo Bunny ~ super cute and so easy to coordinate all of your pages.  I usually buy a few sheets of each of my favorite pattern papers, go through and pick out several colors of coordinating cardstock and then buy several coordinating items like sticker borders, sticker words, and chipboard embellishments.

Below are the divided page protectors from We R Memory Keepers that I use ~ they come in several different layouts that fit all sizes of pictures, brochures and journalling blocks.   I always type up my journalling because it helps me remember more details, I can include more information and it just looks nicer.
I love adding the word stickers from the Little Yellow Bicycle travel line ~ they are the perfect touch.
If your picture doesn't fit correctly into the slot available, I usually either edit it in my photo software and change the direction, or I crop off any unnecessary background & make it fit.

Just make sure your pages and embellishments are pretty flat ~ otherwise they won't slide into the pockets.

Using stamps on your pages is perfect for this type of project.  Not only do they make great backgrounds, but you can use them throughout the pages of your album to coordinate your pages and keep things simple.

When your embellishments don't really match one of the events in your pictures, just pick out something that coordinates and go with it.  I didn't really want to use the travel papers with my zoo pictures, so I dug into my stash of goodies and found something that looked great with the rest of my album.

So those are just a few of the many pages I completed.  There are about 90 pages all together ~ some have more detail on them and some are all uncropped photos that were just slid into the pockets.  That's the beauty of these albums.

I still have several more trip albums organized and ready to go ~ New York City (2007), Las Vegas (2007), Mexican Rivera Cruise (2005), New England Cruise (2008), and a Southern Caribbean Cruise from earlier this year.  The photos all sit in albums similar to this and are ready to go ~ now to find the time.

Pleated Ribbon Flower

Happy Tuesday ~ at least I hope it is for all of us!  I've been a bit down lately wondering if it's time to make some changes {creatively speaking}.  I saw a great card on Facebook yesterday by Susan Opel & it inspired me to try a technique I've been wanting to do ~ and I hoped it might get my juices flowing.

Anyway, I love all the ribbon and fabric flowers I've seen out there & thought this pleated ribbon from Maya Roads would work great for the technique ~ and it does!

So how do you do it?  Here ya go ~ I simply started with a 2" cardstock circle and added a sheet of Scor-tape to it.  Then I started around the outside of the circle adding the pleated ribbon.  It works so well because it already has the breaks in the ribbon & turns beautifully.  Just keep wrapping the ribbon around toward the center and cut the ribbon.  Finish with a brad to hide the edge of the ribbon ~ Easy Peasy!

Supplies from i{heart}papers: Pattern Paper ~ Crate Paper (Restoration); Sentiment ~ Unity December Store Kit of the Month; Ink ~ Palette; Trim ~ Maya Road; Pleated Ribbon ~ Maya Road; Embossing Folder ~ Quickuts; Epoxy Brad ~ Basic Grey.

Ohhhh....SCARY!

Time for some scary fun since Halloween is fast approaching.  Are you ready?  I don't know about you, but I don't even have pumpkins yet!  I did manage to get my fall wreath on my front door, but that's about it.  Here's a cute and super easy decoration to stick some fun treats inside.  I used the Mummy X-ing set from Our Craft Lounge.

Today It's 3 Years at Lizzie Anne!

Hello Peeps!  I was searching for something on my blog the other day and came across the announcement I made 3 years ago today that I was joining the Lizzie Anne Designs Team.  What a wonderful day that was to be part of such a fantastic group ~ and I still feel that way today.  I just love the Lizzie Anne owners, the Designers, and of course, the wonderful products.   A special thanks to Tricia & Meridith for these last 3 years and I look forward to many more with you ~ {{{{hugs}}}}!

For my project for today, I used the typewriter and sentiment from the Sweet & Spooky Monthly Mix along with the Alphabet single ~ what a perfect match!  It's a super clean and simple card, but I really like how it turned out!

Trick or Rice Krispy TREAT

My kids got these cute Halloween Rice Krispy Treats this weekend from their uncle, so of course I had to make a card and take a picture with them before they could eat them!  On the card, I used the new Lizzie Anne Designs Monthly Mix ~ Sweet & Spooky.  After I embossed the orange cardstock, I used one of the word stamps in the set and stamped them on the raised edge ~ got that idea from the October Paper Crafts issue.  Pretty cool huh?

Sunday's Book Review

Hey Peeps ~ I know you've come here expecting a card or papercrafting project, but I've been doing a lot of reading lately & thought that every now and then I'd throw in some recommended reading.  I have been the library director of our chruch library for the past 10 years & have bought A LOT of materials for our shelves.  Now just so you know, our library is not a shelf of books in the hallway that collects dust ~ we have over 7,000 pieces in our beautiful facility & I am so blessed to be part of this wonderful ministry.

So my very first recommendation is the book I just finished last night called While We're Far Apart by Lynn Austin.   It's a wonderful story that takes place during WWII that shows the many similarities between the Jewish and Christian faiths.  There are several main characters in this book and it's very interesting to watch them grow up and grow in their faith.   I highly recommend this book (as well as any other book by Lynn Austin).
OK ~ I'm off to start a new book.  Happy reading!
