Spectrum Noir Colorista Blog Hop!

Hey There and Happy Tuesday!  Spectrum Noir and Crafter's Companion have some fabulous new coloring products called the Colorista Collection ~ Card Kits, Premium Marker Pads and fabulous new markers and pencils.  Sara Davies will be presenting these on HSN next Tuesday, August 30th & today we have a fun sneak peek Blog Hop to get you all excited!

I started coloring one of the pages from the Eastern Promise Premium Marker Pad.  I love the paper these pages are printed on... so smooth and easy to color.  I also love the smaller tips on these new markers, perfect for small areas with fabulous coverage and just slightly smaller than the tip on the original Spectrum Noir Markers.

The markers I used are from the Spectrum Noir Colorista Set #1 (Purple, Rose Red, Orchid) & I also used my Spectrum Noir Mark PP2 because I wanted a light pink.

I wasn't sure exactly what I was going to do with my finished piece, but if I color something, I HAVE to make something out of it.  Soooo.... I decided to make a wall hanging for my studio.  It's bright and colorful and I added some pretty bling to it as well.

Spectrum Noir Colorista Collection

Hey There Crafty Friends!  So today I'm sharing some cards I made with the new Colorista Collection from Spectrum Noir.  The cardmaking kit comes with pre-printed foiled & glittered cards, envelopes and card inserts.  All you need to do is pull out your markers and color away.  Super easy to do while watching TV or waiting for your kids in the carpool line.   

Other than the background and the light purple flower, I used only markers from the Spectrum Noir Colorista Set #1.  In addition to the Set #1 markers, for the background I used Spectrum Noir BT1 marker so the flowers and sentiment would really POP off the card.  I also added a light purple flower (card on the left), using the HB1 marker.

For my project today, I used a few of the Tiny Texture images to stamp a background in the Gina K ink pads of Jelly Bean Green & Ocean Mist. Then I stamped the sentiment from the set in Blue Raspberry ink. The beautiful Flutterby Butterfly die was added as the main focus. Check out my tutorial below to see how I colored them with my Spectrum Aqua markers.

Step 1:  Die cut the Flutterby Butterfly using Spectrum Noir Watercolor Paper three times.

Step 2: Using the Peacock Blue Spectrum Aqua Marker, add color directly from the marker to the watercolor paper along the edges of the butterfly wings & the center.

Step 3: Using the Teal, randomly add color to the inside wings of the die cut. 

Step 4: Using the Aquamarine, add color near the center of the butterfly die cut.

Step 5: Next add Bud Green randomly on the wings.   Note: Leave some white space on the butterfly die cut.

Step 6: Using a waterbrush, blend the colors.

Step 7: Add glitter to the butterfly wings with Ranger Stickles.

Gina K Inspiration Hop ~ Day #2!

For my card today, I used the Old Country Roses stamp set and created layers of color with my Spectrum Aqua Markers.

Step 1: Using the large triple rose image, color the entire image with the Sunflower Spectrum Aqua Marker.

Step 2: Spritz the watercolor paper with water & stamp the image.

Step 3: Using the layered triple rose, color the image with the Gold Spectrum Aqua Marker.

Step 4: Spritz the image with water, line up the image with the previously stamped roses & stamp the image on top.  (Note: don't spritz the paper with water this time because it will ruin the rose image you've already stamped)

Step 5: For the rose centers, use the Marigold Spectrum Noir Marker to color the stamp, spritz the stamp with water and line up the image.  Trim with scissors.

Step 6:  Using the leave image, color with the Olive Spectrum Noir Maker, spritz the watercolor paper & stamp the image.

Step 7: Using the leaf vein image, color with Moss Spectrum Noir Marker, spritz with water, line up the image and stamp.  Make two leaves & trim them with scissors.

Step 8: Once the images are trimmed and the card base is prepared, attach with foam dots and add some glitter to the center of each rose.

Here is the card I made for the hop today and a tutorial with my Spectrum Aqua Pens... scroll down to see my step-by-step photos.

Step 1: Select a color palette for the image.  I used Moss & Olive on the stems, Chocolate & Tan on the flower centers, and Gold & Sunflower on the flowers.

Step 2: Using the Olive Spectrum Aqua marker, add ink directly to the stamp with the marker tip.  I covered all of the stems with Olive ink.

Step 3: Using the Moss ink, I dabbed my pen tip on random areas of the stems.

Step 4: Cover the entire area of the flower center with Tan ink (sorry forgot to take that photo)
Step 5: Dab Chocolate ink to the outside left edges of each flower center.

Step 6: Using the Sunflower Spectrum Aqua Pen, add ink to each flower petal.

Step 7: Using the Gold Spectrum Aqua Pen, dab ink randomly to the flower petals.

Step 8: Using a spray bottle with water, mist some water on Spectrum Noir Watercolor paper & stamp the image.  (Tip: Make sure the spray bottle sprays a fine mist.  The water will give any ink that has dried the moisture needed to show up on the watercolor paper).

Crafter's Companion and HSN team up TODAY!

Tutorial with Spectrum Noir & Gina K

Hi Friends!  I have another new Gina K & Spectrum Noir tutorial to share with you today!  I used all kinds of different techniques on these cards using the latest Stamp TV Kit called Sending Love.  Grab a cup of coffee & come take a peek!

Background Paper:

Step 1:  I stated out making a strip of background paper using the chisel tip of my Spectrum Noir Markers (HB1, HB2, HB3).

Step 2: Line up a piece of cardstock on grid paper and then use a scratch piece of cardstock as a ruler or guide as you add diagonal marker lines.  I started from lightest to darkest color and continued all the way down the cardstock.

Tip: Half way through, you may want to flip over the scrap cardstock once it becomes saturated with ink.

Tip: Overlap your marker lines slightly so there are no gaps in color.

Note:  I decided to make a second card using the same technique.  This time I cut a piece of the pre-printed pattern black & white designer cardstock included in the Stamp TV Kit.

Watercolor Markers on Stamps:

NOTE: I changed from Spectrum Noir alcohol ink markers to Spectrum Aqua watercolor markers for this next technique.

Step 3: Add Wildflower ink directly from my Spectrum Aqua marker to the entire image of  the butterfly stamp.

Step 4: Add Orchid ink from the marker to the outside areas of the butterfly image.

Step 5: Spritz water on watercolor paper & stamp the image.  I trimmed out 3 butterflies (1 large & 2 small) and added them to my card.

Coordinating Sentiments:

The next technique I want to share is matching up printed sentiments.  Similar to the backgrounds I did above, I decided to color the sentiments to match my cards my cards.  To do this simply use the chisel tip of the Spectrum Noir Marker and swipe lines across the sentiment.  TIP: Make sure to do this rather quickly and don't overlap too much so the color blends well.

Coloring Flowers with Spectrum Noir Markers and Spectrum Noir Colored Pencils:

Step 1: Color the entire flower with HB1

Step 2: Add H2 ink to the outside tips of the flower.

Step 3: Repeat the HB1 marker over the entire image.

Step 4: Add HB3 to the inside of the flower.

Step 5: Add Spectrum Noir colored pencil (080) to the black lines of the image.

Step 6: Blend with Gamsol Blending Solution and a paper blending stump.

Here is the difference in flowers: 

Upper Left: finished flower

Right: Spectrum Noir Markers & Pencil (not blended)

Lower Left: Spectrum Noir Markers Only 

Coloring Embellishments:

Don't have the right color embellishments for your project?  No worries... color your own!  I used True Black to color these rhinestones, but you can use any of the Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers to color buttons, gems, ribbon, flowers, wood, epoxy, etc...
