More Hanna Treats...

Can you tell I am loving the micro setting on my camera right now? I finally figured out how to use it and now I LOVE taking close-ups! Woohooo! The reason I took this close-up is because I really wanted to show the glittery snowflakes on the white cardstock ~ they turned out so pretty.

The taller card is once again using the Ski Bunny set (this is gonna be a very popular set based on your comments yesterday). The other card uses the new Penguin Antics set. It's full of all kinds of cute little penguins. I'll have more penguins tomorrow for you...

Boo Box...

Yes...it's another Halloween project! I'm on a roll lately & just can't seem to stop making things with the color orange!

I love looking around stores for new inspiration. Target is probably my favorite inspiration spot. I go through the gift bag asile and jot down layout ideas or I find these fun little buckets in the dollar spot. Well my latest inspiration piece came from... a pack of gum! Can you believe that? Here's what I did...

First I tore apart the gum box & traced it onto a piece of pumpkin cardstock.

Next, I cut it out and scored all the fold marks. Make sure you include the tabs so you get a nice fold.

My last step was to stamp my images all over the box ~ make sure you do this BEFORE you tape it together. Just fold the score makes and add some strong adhesive ~ VOILA!

Spooky Treat Box

BOO!

I am so excited about today's project! There were about 10 other things I should have been working on yesterday, but I just HAD to work on this idea. I bought this egg box last spring and never really knew what I wanted to do with it ~ until I found these fun little Martha Stewart test tubes at Michael's the other day.

I painted the edges, bottom and lid of the box with black acrylic paint & then covered each side with paper. Although I don't need the lid with the test tubes, I decided to decorate it anyway to use the box for something else later on. Once the box was covered with pattern paper, I used my Martha Stewart Goop punch to punch out the olive green border around the top. I also added googly eyes inside the O's.

The holes in the insert were much too large, so I cut a piece of pattern paper and punched out the 1 3/8" circles with a punch. Next I punched a 1" hole (which is the size of the test tube) from black cardstock. Using my scallop circle punch upside down, I lined up the 1" hole in the center & punched out the scallop. I attached the scallop circle piece over the pattern paper & now the holes are the perfect size for the test tubes!

The little tags for each test tube were made with the Spooked stamp set by Lizzie Anne Designs ~ I love that set!

It's Inchie Friday... Chalk Board Page

In my opinion, scrapbooking is much more than a 12"x12" layout inside an album. It's all about the pictures and letting people see them. Why have album after album sitting on your bookshelf if they don't get looked at on a regular basis? Now there is nothing wrong with having albums ~ but let's get those pictures out and display them in fun new ways.

Today's Inchie Friday project is actually a page layout on a slightly unconventional medium ~ a chalk board! I found this great little 6" x 8" chalk board at Hobby Lobby for only $1.00 & thought it would be perfect for stamping on with white pigment ink. As accents, I stamped the apple and the star on white Inchie squares & I really think they help the photo pop off the board.

Along with the cute chalkboard, I also found this little star box. The lid stays in place with magnets. First, I painted the lid, the bottom and all the edges with an olive acrylic paint. Then I took a 1"x 12" strip of the pattern paper and applied adhesive with my Xyron machine. I wrapped the paper around the base of the star ~ and it was a perfect fit! After the paint on the lid was dry, I stamped the letters of the alphabet around the star lid on top and on the edges. Lastly, I stamped, colored and added my cute little Inch Worm Inchie as a decorative accent on the lid. It's perfect for paperclips, coins or a sweet afternoon treat ~ not to mention a fun little coordinating piece for the chalk board layout.

So are you wondering about these little Inchie Squares? As I mentioned in my post a few weeks ago, they are far more than chipboard. They are a very high quality matboard material with beautifully finished edges. They come in white and black and are perfect for stamping on. In the pictures below, I stamped in black Memento Ink; however, I still prefer my Palette Noir ink pad. When using a border on my Inchie, I like to stamp that first. I usually just eyeball it from the side to make sure I'm hitting the Inchie correctly. {Secret tip: If I mess it up, I usually just set that Inchie aside and cover it with paper for another project.}

Once the border image is stamped, I use a mask (made of Post-It Notes), to cover the border so I can stamp the inside image. I just keep the mask with my stamps and use it over and over again.

Take the mask off and your image is ready to color. I prefer to use Copic Markers, but Prisma Color Pencils work very well too.

The transformation from white Inchie square to a gorgeous embellishment is AMAZING!

Halloween Hot Cocoa...

I don't know about where you live, but here in Indiana, it can be very cold on Halloween. I always try and make sure we can put heavy clothes under my kids costumes or even a coat. When they arrive home, they are always ready to have some hot chocolate while they are sorting and trading candy. So why wait until the Christmas/winter season to make all those cute hot cocoa gift packets ~ give some to the kids for Halloween and pair them up with those adorable Ghost Marshmellow Peeps!

Here is the matching card and a close-up of the tag. This fun little ensemble is actually for a challenge that I will be posting over at Hanna Stamps tomorrow. I just thought I'd give you a little sneak peek today.

Halloween Pop-Up...

How about a little Halloween surprise with no calories? Well I'm sure this first picture won't look like much of a surprise, just keep looking...

When you open up the card ~ POP! It's this super cool new Pop Up Spring by Piggy Tales. I saw this fun little pop up spring at CHA this past summer & knew as soon as I saw them in the store, I would buy some.

This little picture to the right isn't very good, but it's dark outside and I can't take another one right now ~ you get the idea.

Witching you a Happy Halloween...

I love this witch from Lizzie Anne Designs ~ isn't she just so cute? Oh... and check out the fun embossed pumpkins and the little bat brads!

I had a ton of fun with all the elements of this card ~ the pattern paper (Stampin' Up!); the embossing folder (Cuttlebug); and bat brads (Making Memories) and the sweet image (Lizzie Anne Designs). I think part of the fun of crafting is finding the fun embellishments at the scrapbook store.

Ohhhh....so spooky!

Happy Autumn! Today is the first full day of fall & that always makes me think of Halloween. We always have a blast at Halloween in our neighborhood. We don't get into the scary stuff, just the fun of dressing up and having fun with our neighbors.

Today's card is form the Spooked stamp set by Lizzie Anne Designs. It's so refreshing working with a solid image stamp! It seems like all I've done lately is color in & sometimes I need a break! Solid images usually make for super quick cards.

Blast Off...

Far out...

Yesterday wore me out with my big project; so today, I'm going simple. It's been a busy few weeks so it felt good to just work on a few little projects. A few challenge cards, a few publication calls & some fun new products came in the mail today...you'll find out about those in a few weeks.

Woohooo! It's Inchie Friday...

It's Friday & you know what that means? It's INCHIE FRIDAY & time for my latest and {I hope} greatest Inchie Arts project!!!!

Hold on to your hats girls... I have LOTS of pictures of my project to show you today! I've been working on this all week long and I love how it turned out.

My daughter is in 6th grade this year and it's kind of strange to see her walking down the hall next to the little kindergartners ~ she is soooooooo tall! I remember when she was the kindergartner and those 6th graders seemed very big and scary!

I have been scrapbooking for several years & I have a huge school book for both Megan and Matt; however, I love this mini book because it is an at-a-glace look at how much my sweet girl has changed over the years.

Just a little tip about mini-albums: Pick a coordinating group of supplies & colors. Use those throughout the entire album. It will save lots of time & it's fun to see how many ways you can use the same pattern of paper. For this album, I used the new KI Memories School line along with Stampin' Up! textured cardstock (Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red, and Brilliant Blue).

For this mini-album, I decided to use a black 6"x 8" Cosmo Cricket chipboard album. Unfortunately, it didn't have enough pages so I added some black chipboard for the last 3 pages.

As you can see in the picture to the right, I have shown the amazing transformation of a white Inchie square to this fabulous embellishment! These little squres are super fun & so fast!

On the Kindergarten page, I used both the black and white Inchie squares. However, I not only used them for stamping but I also added paper and star brads to add variety and visual interest. It was a lot of fun coming up with new things to do with my box of Inchie squares.

On the 1st grade page (below), I decided to add the Itty Bitty borders around the images and letters from my mini alphabet stamp set for the a, b, c squares. (I have a tutorial coming up on borders very soon.)

On the 2nd grade page below, look at the square with the pencils. It's actually a full size stamp and I just stamped a small portion onto the Inchie square. On the star square, I added an eyelet to the center of the star stamp to make it POP!

Since this is a mini album, I not only used the same colors and paper line, but I wanted to use a similar format for all the layouts. It makes things flow throughout the entire book. On the page below, I used only part of the Inchie border under the cute little worm. It's super easy to omit images from a stamp, just put tape over the part you don't want to use ~ but make sure you take the tape off before you stamp!

Ahhhh....4th grade ~ Megan's favorite year of school so far. She had a wonderful teacher ~ a man! He was a first year teacher and really loved his first class. Anyway, on this page I decided to bring back the paper covered elements and star brads.

On to 5th grade! Well on this page, I decided to use a few more black Inchie squares & changed the direction of the center square. It just mixes things up a bit & adds visual interst. As you can see on most of the pages, I use a set of 3 squares ~ using an odd number of elements is a standard in design.

Finally the last page ~ are you still with me? As you can see, we don't have pictures for this page just yet because they haven't been taken yet. Anyway, it's all done and ready to go.

A little more bling...

While I had the Pearl Ex out the other day, I decided to make one more card. You can't really see the sparkle in this picture, but it really shines in person. I hope you enjoyed the tutorial yesterday ~ it was fun to put together for you!

Pearl Ex Bling Butterfly...

It's been ages since I've used my Pearl Ex Pigment Powder so last week I started playing around with a technique that I did several years ago. I'm not sure who invented the technique & I'm not even sure what the name of it is; however, when I saw this beautiful butterfly in the Au Naturale set by Lizzie Anne Designs, I really wanted to try it again. I've decided I'm just going to call it Pearl Ex Bling because it's super blingy!

At first I couldn't remember all the steps to the Pearl Ex Bling, so I called my girlfriend Michelle & she walked me through it ~ thanks MY! I was going to post this card yesterday, but then thought I would include a tutorial on it ~ just in case you haven't seen it before (or maybe you forgot too).

Step 1: Gather your supplies - line drawn image, Staz-On Jet Black ink, Pearl Ex pigment powder, a paint brush and a transparency sheet. You don't want to pick an image that has writing on it because it may end up reversed & that would make you very sad!

Step 2: Stamp your image on the transparency sheet. Make sure you use Staz On ink. This will not work with Palette or Stampin' Up! black ink. Also, if your transparency sheet has a rough side to it, stamp on the smooth side.

Step 3: Your image should dry fast, but just in case, let it sit for a minute or two. Then run your transparency sheet through your Xyron machine - stamped side up. I have repositionable adhesive in mine ~ sometimes the permanent adhesive tends to peel off, so I don't recommend it for anything (personally, I don't like it at all). Peel off the adhesive sheets and put your image (sticky side up) on your work surface.

Step 4: Dip your paint brush into one color of Pearl Ex pigment powder & "paint" onto the sticky side. NOTE: once you have a color on there, you cannot change it! Plan how you want to paint.

Step 5: I usually pick 3 colors and start with one for the little details. Then I add another color with some of the larger detail and the 3rd color for the majority of the image. It may look a little messy, but don't worry about it.

Step 6: Run a piece of black cardstock through your Xyron machine and put the sticky side of the black cardstock to the sticky side of the transparency sheet.

Step 7: Press the transparency sheet firmly to the black cardstock and smooth out with your fingers. Then cut out your image.

Here is my finished product! This isn't the same butterfly as in the tutorial, but it's close.
