Flip Top Robot...

A few months ago I made this fun Flip Top card as a submission for World Cardmaking Day. It didn't get picked up because they wanted my Christmas card; however, I really loved how it turned out & I thought I would share this tutorial I made ~ I was actually thinking ahead and took pictures while I made it!

Here is the outside ~ which really doesn't look all that different than any other card.

However, the "FLIP TOP" is the hidden secret! So do ya want to see how I made it?

Step 1: Cut a standard card base ~ 11" x 4 1/4" & score at 5 1/2". On the top flap, draw a light pencil line 3/8" on both side and the bottom. Then using your pinking sheers, cut a zig-zag cut on all three sides following the pencil line. Be careful on the corners so you get a nice edge. Trim the top score line and remove the trimmed cardstock.

Step 2: Cut two pieces of stripe pattern paper. Piece #1 ~ cut the stripes horizonally at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". Piece #2 ~ cut the stripes vertically 4 1/4" x 1". Basically, you want the stripes to go opposite directions on the two pieces.

Step 3: Using pattern paper #2, cut the corners diagonally to create a funny looking triangle.

Step 4: Attach the 1" piece to the larger piece at the bottom & it will give a beautiful finish to your corners. Don't worry about edge of the pattern showing, we will cover that up.

Step 5: Cut a solid piece of cardstock3 3/8" x 4 7/8" & then a piece of white cardstock slighly smaller. Do NOT attach it yet. Just lay it out and fit it inside the card to make sure the edges of the white and colored cardstock don't show outside the zig-zag edge. Trim if needed.

Step 6: Once your white cardstock is the right side, stamp your images. Attach a magnet to the card base and then attach your matted white cardstock on the card base over the magnet.

Step 7: Peel the adhesive off the opposite magnet and place it (adhesive side up) on the other magnet (on the bottom card base). THEN, close your flip top & your magnet will be perfectly placed on your top flap. Attach your pattern pieces and stamped image over the top magnet to hide it. VOILA ~ the inside is done.

Step 8: Decorate the front of your flip top with pattern paper, stamped images & buttons.

Don't you just LOVE IT!
